The Next Generation in Professional Development

Each year, APPA offers programing for facilities professionals seeking development and training in technical areas such as operations and maintenance, energy and utilities, general administration and planning, design, and construction. This is known as APPA U. Historically, each January and September, participants in the Institute for Facilities Management and the Leadership Academy gather at a location to learn better management skills and take the next steps to becoming the leader they can be.

The Supervisor’s Toolkit at Austin Peay started out with a bang, but it didn’t start on Monday as planned! Ice and snow forced the campus to close canceling all classes being held on Feb. 3rd. So after the unexpected “snow day”, the attendees hit the books hard on Tuesday, Feb. 4th plowing through all of the material, shortening some breaks, and graduated on time Friday, Feb. 7th. With participants from as far away as Memphis, and Knoxville everyone enjoyed their time on the beautiful Austin Peay campus and learned a lot! “Thanks to everyone responsible for the successful APPA Toolkit that just concluded at Austin Peay. The 9 attendees from UTK came back raving about the program and what they learned. We are working to make sure they can share those lessons with others on our team to maximize the impact.

“This successful experience has reinforced our intent and commitment to host a Supervisor’s Toolkit here in Eastern TN.”
